Reality Based Training
The Reality Based Training Detail is responsible for training the departments sworn in service personnel
and advanced training for officers within Region 14. Training through the Reality Based detail is split
in three components. First component is classroom curriculum for annual recertification in autism, crisis
intervention, de-escalation, and tactical emergency casualty care. During the tactical emergency casualty
care officers are issued and trained on the use and deployment of individual first aid kit (IFAK). The second
portion is the annual defensive tactics curriculum where officers are recertified in the use and deployment
of Asp collapsible Baton and oleoresin capsicum spray. The defensive tactics curriculum also incorporates
handcuffing, defensive, and striking techniques.
The third portion is scenario-based training, officers are taken through live and virtual reality scenarios
based off the annual classroom curriculum, with an emphasis on de-escalation and tactical emergency casualty care.
Administratively, the details members must be up to date with current trends impacting law enforcement,
the departmental orders and standard operating procedures in the sections dealing with use of force
and officer response.
