The mission of the Gang Intelligence Unit is to deter gang related crime and violence in the City of Miami and to assist other units in the clearance of open gang related criminal investigations. The goal of the Gang Intelligence Unit is to identify, investigate, and apprehend violent criminal gang members and to disrupt and dismantle criminal gang organizations which attempt to operate within the City of Miami. The objective of the Gang Intelligence Unit is to conduct operations in areas where these individuals or groups conduct their illegal activities and to target gang members or groups involved with firearms, illegal narcotics, and violent crimes. The Gang Intelligence Unit provides information and support to other City of Miami Police investigative and tactical units by relaying pertinent information on open criminal investigations involving gang members or by identifying, apprehending, and interviewing gang members who may be suspected of committing a crime. To facilitate achieving their goals and objectives, the Gang Intelligence Unit regularly communicates and coordinates with numerous Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement Gang Units and Violent Crime Task Forces who share a similar mission.
