The Investigative Support Section is an element of the Criminal Investigations Division consisting of three units: Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Tactical Investigations Unit,
and the Investigative Intelligence Unit. The Investigative Support Section provides analysis, technical investigative support, information and intelligence, and a tactical response
to assist all elements of the Criminal Investigations Division.
The Crime Scene Investigations Unit: The unit provides forensic investigative support and responds to all major crime scenes to accurately document, collect and preserve
all items of evidentiary value. Members received specialized training in various disciplines which include latent fingerprint processing, DNA collection, photography & digital
3-D laser scanning. Evidence collected is transported to the Crime Scene Laboratory where additional specialized processing is performed. Developed latent print evidence is
processed by the Department’s state-of-the-art Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and analyzed by certified Latent Print Examiners.
The Tactical Investigations Unit: Consists of the Felony Apprehension Team, the Tactical Robbery Unit, the Tactical Burglary Detail, and the Domestic Violence
Apprehension Team. The unit’s primary function is to deter violent crime and apprehend violent felony subjects. The Tactical Investigative Unit works with investigators
and analyst within the Criminal Investigative Section and partners with outside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to include the United States Marshals Service.
The Investigative Intelligence Unit: Comprised of the following: Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), Crime Gun Intelligence Detail (CGIC), Criminal Intelligence Detail, Computer
Forensic Detail, Crime Analysis Detail, Criminal Intelligence Analyst Detail, Technical Assistance Detail, and Video Retrieval Detail.
